Early Homosexual Life in ZurichImportant personalities of the first decades of the 20th century are notably Renée Schwarzenbach-Wille and her daughter Annemarie Schwarzenbach, an author and photographer who openly addressed the issue of her homosexuality, and who was a close friend of the Mann siblings, especially Erika Mann from the Cabaret Pfeffermühle. A guided tour of the city will bring this era and its distinguished protagonists to life. |

Forbidden Glances – A Short History of Censorship and the Issue of HomosexualityA lecture and a panel discussion will focus on this key topic: whereas Matthias Uhlmann will offer a concise general history of censorship in Zurich, the panel discussion will explore how censorship dealt with the issue of homosexuality in the past. This special will be accompanied by some illustrating film screenings: feature films that fell victim to censorship, and titles that document gay and lesbian film history – from the traces of censorship (and it’s avoidance) to the beginning of the modern homosexual movement.

Second Generation Immigrants and Coming-OutParticularly for individuals with a migration background it is often impossible to come out to their families. How do second generation immigrants deal with this complex situation? Where do they get advice? How do they arrange their lives despite the expectations of their families? We will address these questions in a panel discussion with members of the Swiss gay and lesbian community with a multicultural background.The discussion will be followed by a screening of the short film «Du & ich» by Esen Isik. |

The Rediscovery of “Vingarne” (1916) – the First Queer Film Comes from SwedenThe English film theorist and author Richard Dyer (“Gays and Film”, “Now You See It”, “Stars”) will introduce us to the historical background of the oldest obtainable film featuring a gay topic. “Vingarne” was created by Mauritz Stiller (1883-1928), who is also said to have discovered Greta Garbo. |
