A Richly Illustrated Outline of the History of Censorship in Zurich from Early Days to the Present
Official control over form and contents of films is as old as the cinema itself. Apart from depictions of violence and certain ideologies and contents being deemed unsuitable, especially portrayals of love and sexuality have been censored by governmental bodies – even until the present day. On the one hand this leads to filmmakers enacting self -censorship, on the other hand to post production censorship, whereby film makers are forced to change or cut “problematic” scenes, or films are even completely forbidden.
After his lecture Matthias Uhlmann will take part in the panel discussion about censorship and homosexuality.
This lecture is in German.
